Central to the role is a passion for the continued development, expansion and employment of a team of designers that today encompasses a broad spectrum of experience levels and seniority. Beyond this, the work itself covers the creative gamut from the conceptual to the highly tactical, advertising to collateral, events to signage, video to identity systems. A key leadership role within the agency, the ideal candidate will be as comfortable working with senior corporate executives as they are leading a brown bag lunch discussion with team members on the latest in design thinking. As such, the Senior Creative Director, Design & Brand must exhibit outstanding creative judgment, the ability to lead other designers in the development of best in class solutions, a user-centered mindset, and a tireless desire to create emotionally powerful experiences that deliver on the larger Aetna Brand Promise.

Fundamental Components included but are not limited to:


  • Partners with account, project management and other creative leaders to scope out projects, best align tasks with team talents and availabilities, supervise the development and presentation of solutions, and ensure that projects accomplish their goals.

  • Plays a visible creative leadership role both internally, within the agency, and externally, across both the larger Aetna and CVS Health enterprises as well as the larger creative community.

  • Works harmoniously with others to get jobs done and leads the team in a collaborative fashion

Design Direction

  • Directs overall creative concepting for a broad swath of the agency s design and brand experiences

  • Ensures that all output is aligned with the larger Aetna brand promise and conforms to the existing Aetna brand identity standards

  • Builds strong relationships with clients; perceived as credible, trusted advisor

  • Directs complex, large-scale project activities and effectively leads and manages work of the design team.

  • Hands on expertise with design, typography, color theory, production processes, and design systems.

  • Exhibits broad understanding of traditional and emerging technologies

  • Directs team members to continually raise the bar with new interpretations of the brand standards and out-of-the box approaches that expand and deepen the brand experience.

Staff Development

  • Celebrates team and individual successes and creates a safe environment for constructive feedback

  • Constructively helps and coaches team in their professional development through informal and formal feedback sessions, as appropriate

  • Demonstrates a real sense of caring for the teams professional and personal well being

  • Nurtures a culture that is fun to work in and helps build an open creative community

Qualifications Requirements and Preferences:


  • Internal agency experience desired

  • Demonstrated creative conceptualization skills

  • Proven design system expertise

  • Minimum of 10+ years of professional level experience


  • Bachelors degree required; Masters preferred
