Aetna Consumer Health & Products (CHP) mandate is to transform health and wellness via products that enable consumer engagement and a best-in-class experience. This team is responsible for Aetna's digital strategy and all digital products; as well as the development roadmap and execution of the roadmap. A key part of this team is to build an integrated platform and underlying products to drive engagement and revolutionize health and wellness.

Aetna is taking on a major initiative to redesign and rebuild many of its customer facing digital assets. This effort will include a completely new approach to developing software within Aetna, using the latest design approaches, technologies, and processes. Aetna Digital is a newly formed startup like business unit within Aetna, which will design, build and deliver a completely new and integrated digital experience for our users.

Aetna Digital is looking for a Lead Data Engineer to join our team in Burlington, MA or Wellesley, MA. In this role, you will participate in the development, validation and delivery of algorithms, complex software processes, integration of existing or new subsystems. Develop moderately complex enterprise, web or mobile applications/components.

Fundamental Components:

Lead Data Engineer will develop components/applications by studying operations; designing, developing and installing software solutions; support and develop software for ingesting and analyzing Big Data.Ability to prioritize well, communicate clearly, have a consistent track record of commitment and accountability for delivery, as well as excellent software engineering skills.Must be able to work across multiple facets of the project and juggle multiple responsibilities at the same time. Strong analytic capability and the ability to create innovative solutions. We are looking for a highly motivated individual who is looking to grow their career in a fast-paced environment.Explores, examines and interprets large volumes of data in various forms. Creates and evaluates the data needs of assigned projects and assures the integrity of the data. Explores existing data and recommends additional sources of data for improvements. Documents projects including business objectives, data gathering and processing, detailed set of results and analytical metrics.Eagerness and willingness to learn new technologies


4-6 years software development/ programming experience in enterprise/ web/ cloud applications.Fluent with functional, imperative and object-oriented languages and methodologies.Strong knowledge of programming languages/tools including: Java, Python, Spark, SQL, Hive, JavaScript, Shell ScriptsExperience with Angular JS/HTML5/Node JS are big plusKnowledge of design patterns is desirable. Experience with BIG DATALooking for experience with Hadoop.Experience with SQL (MySQL, Postgres) and NoSQL(MongoDB/HBase/ReDis) database is expected.Familiarity with various operating systems (Linux/ Windows)Experience coding, testing and documenting middleware/ server side modules.Experience working in an agile environmentExperience in communicating with users, other technical teams and management to collect requirements, identify tasks, provide estimates and meet production deadlinesExperience with mission critical, 24x7 systemsExperience implementing and consuming large-scale web services (RESTful APIs)Knowledge and experience of DevOps is desirable.Exposure to container technologies (Docker or similar) and orchestration is a big plus.Demonstrates good written & verbal communication and presentation skills


The highest level of education desired for candidates in this position is a Master's degree.
