The role of the Health Coach Dietitian is to employ a collaborative process of assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation, to engage, educate, and promote/influence members in decisions related to achieving and maintaining optimal nutritional status.Facilitating positive behavioral change is essential in this role.

Fundamental Components:

The telephonic Health Coach Dietitian role includes (but is not limited to): Being an advocate for appropriate wellness and prevention at each phase of the life cycle and continuum of care with acute or chronic conditions. The health coach dietitian takes a holistic approach to member care and uses motivational interviewing techniques to support members in healthy lifestyle behavior change. They utilize data to make accurate conclusions, early interventions and educate members.

They are responsible for creating a positive work environment by acknowledging team contributions, soliciting input, and offering assistance as needed. They will be accountable for maintaining compliance with policies and procedures .Hours of operation are 8:00 AM to 4:30pm PM EST Monday Friday with proactive flexibility in shift hours to meet member needs e.g. requests for calls outside of traditional business hours.


One of the following licensures is required (varies by state): Licensure of dietitian, Licensure of nutritionist, RN, DTR, Certification of dietician, Licensure of nutrition counselor, Certification of dietician, Certification of nutritionist, Licensure of medical nutrition therapist, Licensure of nutrition associate.

3+ years of coaching experience required

Experience as a Diabetic Educator is preferred

Experience in related areas such as weight management, nutrition or health lifestyle behavior change

Background in motivational interviewing, active listening skills, Transtheoretical Model, mindfulness based and other evidence-based coaching techniques preferred.

Experience in facilitating patient/client positive behavioral change

Ability to work with a multidisciplinary team

Excellent computer skills including MS Office applications such as Excel and Access required.

Demonstrated ability to communicate, problem solve, and work effectively with people, use good judgment in challenging situations


The highest level of education desired for candidates in this position is a Master's degree.

Telework Specifications:

The position will be full-time telework. The candidate must live within 60 minutes of an Aetna office and be willing to travel for IT support and meetings as requested. Location permitting training can be completed in an office setting


A Registered Dietitian (RD) is part of a dynamic team that serves as a food and nutrition expert with the ability to explain the science of nutrition to meet members health care needs. They interpret information objectively in respect to diversity of the individual or population including culture and social determinants. The RD works in coordination with the case manager and other internal or external disciplines. Whether through referral or collaboration, the RD supports the member and the CM along the continuum of care. Effective RD intervention promotes cost-effective outcomes e.g. decreased medication use, prevents readmission, lowers obesity rates, less frequent doctor visits, etc
