POSITION SUMMARY

As a member of the SVP, Aetna Business System Strategy & Execution's leadership team, the VP of Competitive Insights will collect, organize and interpret competitor and environmental data, reports and news to deliver actionable strategic insights that enable leadership decision making and inform our ongoing strategic planning. This role will leverage existing internal resources (i.e. Marketing Insights, Investor Relations, Plan Sponsor Insights, & Government Relations) to aide in the collection and distilling of information, with a focus on how to better synthesize this array of information to uncover insights that would not be uncovered if only viewed within their existing functional vertical. In addition, this individual will augment this information with their own gathering and collecting of competitive data.

It is expected that this individual will not only collect and distill competitive and market information but will make recommendations in conjunction with business leaders across all of Aetna's disparate businesses. Will play a critical role in helping stimulate debate amongst executives on what strategies to pursue that give us the most realistic chance of success. This individual will be tasked with making this function a significant contributor to achieving our company's strategic goals and will be expected to up our game from simply collecting interesting data into actional insights that drive critical business decisions and results.

Location: Hartford, Ct offices preferred, open to other Aetna HUB offices. Willingness to travel.

Fundamental Components:

DATA COLLECTION AND SYNTHESIS

Utilize existing internal and external resources for data collection

Expand our external data collection and market research capabilities

Assure data is synthesized, aligned and in support of specific business priorities

Gather high impact data (e.g., non-publicly available) for regular, structured communications with internal clients

Determine appropriate repository for Customer Insights materials

Manage the demand for actionable customer insights across the business and be able to prioritize where money and energy should be spent

INSIGHT DISTRIBUTION

Distribute concise, insightful and relevant commentary to the business leaders on a frequent basis

Align business specific metrics to specific Customer Insights efforts

Create distinct deliverables for executive leadership team

Manage the repository and communication flow process and cadence

ANALYSIS AND RECOMMENDATIONS

Deliver to leadership focused actionable insights and implications that are business specific

Active participant in internal debates about where to place our best bets

Follow through with leaders on the execution of activities that were influenced by Customer Insights recommendations

Reinforce that our strategies are relevant and market competitive using Customer Insights outputs

Support ad-hoc leadership requests

Generate an internal two-way, Customer Insights conversation

Background/experience desired:

10+ years of relevant healthcare consulting, competitive intelligence, research or strategy experience

Strong critical thinker who makes balanced, insightful decisions

Fact-based problem solver with the ability to evaluate alternative courses of action and make sound management decisions

Demonstrated personal integrity with the ability to inspire trust and create an environment of constructive debate that encourages diverse opinion, yet supports management decisions

Collaborative style, with the ability to establish working relationships across the senior management team, business units, and as well as with external advisors and constituents

Experience with cross-functional initiatives, with a high degree of complexity

Demonstrates ability to lead, influence and problem-solve across various Aetna businesses

Proven relationship management skills across all levels within an organization and external constituents

Strategic business acumen and proven senior leadership skills.

Ability to articulate and promote a vision.

Ability to influence diverse teams and build strong relationships.

Must demonstrate strategic thinking as well as roll up your sleeves action.

Deep knowledge of the healthcare industry and how it functions with a keen understanding of growth drivers

EDUCATION

Master's degree preferred.
