Aetna VP, Business Development & Strategy Execution in Hartford, Connecticut

As a member of the SVP, Aetna Business Strategy & Execution's leadership team, the VP of Business Development & Strategy Execution will be responsible for working with senior leadership to determine key strategic business priorities that create a distinct competitive advantage for Aetna in the marketplace. Ensure alignment of the strategic plan to the operating plan to create a clear guide path to achieving business goals. Will help drive a dynamic business process utilizing internal and external sources that allows us to adapt to rapid and unpredictable changes in the market.
With deep and broad healthcare experience and background will provide strategic thought leadership around development of new areas for growth, innovative products, partnerships and business opportunities that support our consumer centric operating model. Will be involved in evaluating potential partnerships or business opportunities to augment our existing portfolio and resources.
Location: Hartford, Ct office preferred. Open to other Aetna HUB locations. Willingness to travel.
Develop a rolling three-year plan with goals that are realistically achievable within a 6-12 month timeframe to ensure execution of the strategy
Identify and drive execution and performance monitoring of strategic business initiatives: This includes development of scope, structure and timing of initiatives and on-going monitoring
Formulates and implements operational strategies and initiatives
Partner with the various Aetna business unit leaders to ensure business unit strategies are tightly aligned with Aetna and CVS priorities
Identifies breakout opportunities and presents to senior leadership to place bets on where we will most likely win
Active participant in debating alternatives about whether a strategy has a realistic chance of getting us where we want to go
Designs and manages the strategic planning activities for Aetna to include the tracking and evaluation of strategic plan initiatives and communication and coordination of strategies and goals with key stakeholders
Directs analysis and preparation of appropriate reports for use in the strategic and operational planning processes
Analyze operational and financial data in order to provide qualitative and quantitative information to support the strategic business development efforts
Assists with the sourcing and evaluating of potential business opportunities and partnerships.
Ensures investments are thoroughly evaluated and if funded are tightly aligned to strategic priorities with measurable milestones and ROI evaluation
Develop logical solutions to key strategic and operational issues, develop & present recommendations to senior leadership
10+ years of relevant healthcare consulting or senior executive experience
The ideal candidate with have both management consulting and business strategy experience as well as a proven track record at prior companies to be competitive and successful in the healthcare market
Well-honed consulting skills enabling the individual to work with others to elicit information, to think objectively and analytically and to influence outcomes positively
Strong critical thinker who makes balanced, insightful decisions
Fact-based problem solver with the ability to evaluate alternative courses of action and make sound management decisions
Demonstrated personal integrity with the ability to inspire trust and create an environment of constructive debate that encourages diverse opinion, yet supports management decisions
Collaborative style, with the ability to establish working relationships across the senior management team, business units, and as well as with external advisors and constituents
Experience with cross-functional initiatives, with a high degree of complexity
Demonstrates ability to lead, influence and problem-solve across various Aetna businesses
Proven relationship management skills across all levels within an organization and external constituents
Strategic business acumen and proven senior leadership skills.
Ability to articulate and promote a vision.
Ability to influence diverse teams and build strong relationships.
Must demonstrate strategic thinking as well as roll up your sleeves action.
Deep knowledge of the healthcare industry and how it functions with a keen understanding of growth drivers
Master's degree preferred
