Job Description

Performs proactively pulling of system reports and accurate analysis of large claims and risk assessment to produce sound financial responses/products in a timely manner. Provides superior service in support of reviewing large claim information and producing documentation for use in quoting and rating. In addition to large claim reviews, will perform Stop Loss related duties and processes including delayed year end reimbursements and new business policy reviews in support of the Stop Loss Team.

Fundamental Components included but are not limited to:

We are currently seeking an experienced Underwriting Consultant to join the UW SUS Large Claim Review Team. As an Underwriting Consultant, this individual will have the responsibility to analyze large claimant information and assess risks as to frequency and potential severity. Collaborating with the Underwriting Consultants on the team, the Underwriting Consultant will work to provide reviews and summaries to the renewal and new business underwriting teams. The Underwriting Consultant will also learn and analyze processes associated with Stop Loss including delayed year end reimbursements and new business policy reviews. The Underwriting Consultant will also assist in responding to team's mailbox inquiries, enhance processes and workflow for the large claim review and Stop Loss process.

Qualifications Requirements and Preferences:

Experience working with standard Microsoft Office products. Demonstrated success in collaborating with others to meet/exceed expectations. Demonstrated ability to utilize analytical and independent thinking skills. Demonstrated success prioritizing work and the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment. 3-5 years experience in underwriting concepts, pricing methodologies and funding arrangements(self insured experience desired). Experience providing clear and concise written and verbal communications. Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.

Functional Skills:

Risk Management - Insurance, finance and loss control, Underwriting - Policy guidelines development, Underwriting - Rating methodologies and/or functions (rating and accounting).

Aetna Application - AetInfo Predictive Modeling Systems, Aetna Application - Large Claim / Pooled Claim Report, Desktop Tool - Microsoft Word

Additional Job Information:

Strong analytical skills are required for assessment of data and recommendations on risk levels of large claimants and stop loss processes. Oral and written communication skills are needed due to daily interaction with medical underwriting and regional underwriters. This candidate should have the knowledge to run large claim reports including predictive modeling and pending reports and stop loss reports. The individual needs to be able to interpret large claim information and predict ongoing risk.
