POSITION SUMMARY

Office based position in Franklin, TN

Support Aetna's ability to achieve its financial and strategic goals through effective underwriting. Underwriting support primarily includes identifying, evaluating, and managing risk in order to maximize revenue, membership and earnings.

Fundamental Components:

As a Medical Underwriting Analyst you will be responsible for: - Accurately performing risk assessment by reviewing medical records, medical questionnaires, claims information and/or prescription medication history - Making sound underwriting decisions based on established criteria and/or medical judgment - Effectively communicating with customers, agents and interdepartmental members regarding the underwriting process - Maintaining quality documentation for all transactions related to the underwriting/risk assessment process - Supporting other business processes including marketing, Policyholder Services, Medical Review, Claims, Compliance, stop/loss and new business - Providing coaching and training to supporting areas - Managing multiple assigned projects in addition to daily production goals

BACKGROUND/EXPERIENCE desired:

MINIMUM 2+ years of individual and/or group insurance industry experience related to medical underwriting and risk assessment; knowledge of Medicare is a plus Demonstrates strong medical knowledge and analytical skills Must be detailed oriented with strong written and verbal communication skills Strong organization skills Able to apply knowledge, judgment and skills to meet customer and business needs Proficient computer skills in Word, Excel and Outlook

EDUCATION

The highest level of education desired for candidates in this position is a Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
