Fundamental Components:

Meet Anatomy, Aetnas first design system.

Anatomy was created to unite Aetna Digital's product, design, and engineering teams around a common visual and brand language with which to work more efficiently and consistently across platforms and applications. Anatomy will provide comprehensive visual styles, UI components, usage guidelines, a11y best practices, and implementation guidance, and allow our teams to focus more on solving users healthcare problems.

However, the small but mighty, cross-functional team creating Anatomy needs your help. Were seeking a talented and thoughtful UX Developer to help bring Anatomy to life using a combination of design talent and front-end development prowess. This role is a critical component to Anatomys online presence and requires a consummate builder and tinkerer who self-identifies as someone who designs with code.

What Youll Do

  • Help architect, implement, and manage Anatomys documentation site experience

  • Keep your finger on the pulse of emerging libraries and technology powering design system and living style guides (i.e. Styleguisist, Storybook, etc.)

  • Ship consistent and beautiful user experiences and establish clear definitions of quality

  • Wear your DevOps hat to write build, deployment, and other tasks

  • Rapidly build and iterate on low-to-high fidelity prototypes in order express design intent

  • Apply best practices to common design and development problems, and go beyond to uncover novel solutions when necessary

  • Confidently communicate your decision-making rationale to team members and stakeholders at all levels of the organization



  • Five (5+) years experience in web development and site creation (Javascript, semantic HTML & CSS, node/npm, git, ARIA roles, etc.)

  • Strong design sensibility with solid UX experience

  • Demonstrable experience working on design systems or larger products

  • Deep experience with inclusive design and accessible development

  • Excellent communication and leadership skills are essential to effectively present concepts to the internal system team and the systems adopters

  • An appetite for variety while also finding as much satisfaction in finishing something as you do starting something new

  • Strong work portfolio that demonstrates creative problem solving

  • Instinctual and insatiable curiosity

  • Positive, collaborative attitude and good sense of humor


  • Active or interest in being active in the open source community

  • Strong systems-thinker with the ability to grok site or app architectural concepts

  • Experience working within an enterprise design or engineering organization


The highest level of education desired for candidates in this position is a Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
