Aetna Legal Medicare Project Manager in Bethesda, Maryland

Work with the attorneys in Medicare and, with direction, the business on specific projects, which include managing and tracking the development, implementation and ongoing maintenance of legal deliverables, and seeking business feedback. Project scope typically impacts one of the following: process, system, function, and/or product. Length of project may run one year or less in duration or some projects may be continuous or ongoing in nature depending on the work.

Fundamental Components:

Provides input on Medicare work to aid attorneys in supporting Medicare business plans to achieve business goals.

Proactively leads assigned project by creating project timeline, identifying key details, information and milestones and additional resources needed to successfully complete the work.

Assists with the management of internal relationships, processes, projects and performance drives (in some cases relationships may be external).

Assists MA attorneys in tracking of projects, outreach and gathering of legal and business input on projects, which may include projects related to contracting, legal and regulatory research and regulatory reviews.

Identifies any resource needs and asks for additional resources (may be cross functional/segment).

Use of ABX/Six Sigma skills and process and experience/ability in managing and leading projects and in driving better process improvement.

Use of excel, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and project management skills

Identifies issues that may stall project and works with MA attorneys and manager to address and to overcome obstacles.

Tracks progress and communicates project status on a regular basis to all impacted parties.

Builds work plan and communication plan for implementation to ensure all impacted parties (upstream/downstream) are informed of next steps for completion.

Acts as an advocate for change may require influencing others to see the value in project, or need for change in processes or goals.

Group facilitation/presentation influencing various internal (these may be cross-functional/segment) and may also include external parties such as state regulators, CMS, and others.

May coach or mentor others by providing work direction.

May solicit and evaluate internal and external customer feedback to enhance continuous quality improvement.

May identify gaps and recommend enhancements related to new and/or existing products, services and workflows based on broad view of the organization.

Develops recommendations based on complex data and root cause analysis using ABX/Six Sigma processes, and project management skill set.

May serve as a Subject Matter Expert.

Good interpersonal and leadership skills and takes initiative to meet goals and deliverables

Application of laws, regulations, and CMS requirements including compliance requirements in projects and work.


3-5 years related work experience.

Medicare experience and compliance and regulatory experience is preferred

Experience with contracts and/or contracting is preferred.

Proven track record meeting project dates.

ABX training at least a yellow belt.

Strong leadership and interpersonal skills.

Desire to grow and learn new tasks and new business areas.


The highest level of education desired for candidates in this position is a Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
