As a Sr. Data Scientist for Aetna's Clinical Analytics team this role conducts analyses and develops technologies to improve the health of its members. The position will employ cutting edge machine learning techniques and advanced analytics to help our members achieve better health and lower their costs. We are currently looking for a Senior Data Scientist who shares our passion for artificial intelligence algorithms and healthcare data.

Fundamental Components:

The group uses an industry leading, scalable data platform and tools to glean insights from Aetnas large array of data sources, including medical claims, prescriptions, and surveys. You would be part of a new and expanding team, with plenty of opportunities to interact with project stakeholders at all levels of the organization. From these insights and understanding of the business needs, you would analyze complex and heterogeneous data sets to deliver actionable insights and develop statistical predictive models. You would develop mathematical approaches and apply statistical evaluations. The work environment is fast-paced, collaborative, and iterative, requiring quick learning, adaptability, and creativity.

Collaborates with business partners to define project requirements:

  • Develops and executes new and/or highly complex algorithms and statistical predictive models and determines analytical approaches and modeling techniques to evaluate scenarios and potential future outcomes.

  • Delivers actionable intelligence from large volumes of data in various formats.

  • Work on strategic and high risk business problems with broad impact on the business area by applying leading-edge theories and techniques to investigate problems, detect patterns and recommend solutions.

    *Develops machine learning models and algorithms.

  • Analyze large amounts of data, using advanced statistical techniques and mathematical analyses, with statistical rigor

    Interacts with internal and external peers and management to share information/solutions related to areas of expertise and/or to gain acceptance of new or enhanced technology/ business solutions.


    5+ years of progressively complex experience in data science and data analytics. Healthcare data related to claims data is preferred.

    Expertise in advanced analytics tools and languages to analyze large data sets from multiple data sources

    Demonstrates advanced specialization in mathematical analysis methods, machine learning, statistical analyses, and predictive modeling.

    Able to communicate analytical findings with business stakeholders,

    Expertise in machine learning, statistical analysis, and software development,

    Proficient in SQL, Python, R and, preferably, HIVE and Hadoop.

    Understanding of the health care industry, products, and systems preferred.


    The highest level of education desired for candidates in this position is a Master's degree in statistics, computer science, analytics, or other quantitative discipline
