POSITION SUMMARY

Develop vision, provide leadership, and enable execution for Platform and Solutions teams serving PDS organization. PDS (Phoenix Data Solutions) is a special purpose legal entity responsible for hosting and managing data for Aetna and all its affiliate businesses. PDS is in process of rapid transformation, upgrading technologies, attracting new leadership, and helping accomplish Aetnas vision of building a healthier world.

Executive Director, Platform & Solutions will manage an organization of approx. 40 employees and 20-30 contingent workers who provide design and solutioning services for PDS org in support of Aetna goals, provide interface to platform engineering team for management of on premise data lake ecosystem, help lead our migration to cloud and design hybrid solutions that work across on premise and in public cloud, and manage several COEs for Cloud, BI, and Salesforce.

Fundamental Components:

  • Manages an organization consisting of approx. 40 employees and 20-30 contingent workers who contribute to four primary services or functions;

  • Provide design and solutioning services for PDS org in support of Aetna goals. This is done in collaboration with Enterprise Architecture organization. The goal is to interface with business areas needing support, understand and triage their needs and map it to set of technologies we have in place or recommend an alternate solution

  • Provide interface to platform engineering team for management of on premise data lake ecosystem (set requirements and abstract delivery and data engineering teams from these responsibilities); manage and keep control of the overall data lake ecosystem / environment, provide and manage tooling etc. This is done in strong collaboration with platform engineering team

  • Help lead our migration to cloud and design hybrid solutions that work across on premise and in public cloud

  • Manage several COEs (Centers of Excellence) for Cloud, BI and Salesforce (or other SaaS tools in future)

  • Requires very strong technology background and knowledge of latest technology, industry and information technology trends, tools and methodologies to develop solutions on projects of strategic significance

  • Requires strong collaboration skills with business stakeholders, IT leaders, PDS leaders and ability to understand and ideally anticipate opportunities and key business challenges

  • Directs the selection, evaluation, contracting, and integration of available tools to deliver system solutions.

  • Leads and builds high performance teams and ensures staff development across unit by providing leadership and mentoring.

  • Manages budgets, plans and expenses. Ensures development cost estimates are based on consistent methodology.

  • Proactively identifies cost savings to reduce overall development expenditures.

  • Resolves issues and removes barriers that hinder development initiatives. Builds contingency plans and executes corrective action on a timely basis to mitigate risks.

  • Ensures development and testing processes and services adhere to appropriate privacy and security protocols.

  • Provides leadership to a significant enterprise staff function through multiple levels of managers.

  • Significantly impacts the results of a corporate function, applying business expertise to identify strategic opportunities and trends.

  • Sets priorities and executes strategy for PDS.

    BACKGROUND/EXPERIENCE desired:

  • Bachelors degree required.

  • Advanced degree in Computer Science or a related discipline preferred.

    EDUCATION

    The highest level of education desired for candidates in this position is a Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.

    Additional Requirements:

  • 15+ years work experience in systems development of equivalent combination of education and work experience.

  • Extensive knowledge of the system development life cycle, systems, and application program development alternatives.

  • Expert experience implementing complex, enterprise-wide data transformation and processing solutions

  • Proven track record in managing large multiple, complex and integrated development projects.

  • Multiple years proven leadership experience setting strategic direction and influencing change that resulted in quantifiable positive outcomes.

  • Extensive experience managing large, diverse and high performing teams

  • Negotiation and influencing skills required

  • Ability to work collaboratively through various department and functions at multiple levels of the organization

  • Superior ability to communicate technical ideas and results to non-technical clients in written and verbal form

  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills, including formal presentations for all levels of management combined with strong collaboration/influencing abilities.

  • Excellent collaboration skills to effectively partner with business clients and IT staff.
