The Senior Underwriting Consultant will support large plan sponsors in the National Accounts organization. This position could support our Renewal and/or New Business teams. In this role the individual will independently perform accurate analysis and risk assessment to produce sound financial responses/products in a timely manner. S/He will provide superior service in support of writing new and/or renewing Aetna's Medical business and will include interaction not only with internal constituents but also directly with plan sponsors, brokers, and consultants. The Senior Underwriting Consultant will independently assess risk factors, price appropriately for the risk, and will establish plan designs that position Aetna competitively. The Sr Underwriting Consultant will present the application of underwriting concepts and will be held accountable for decisions made on their accounts. S/He will make recommendations for alternate plan sponsor solutions. Essential Functions: · Handles casework and issues autonomously using knowledge of Aetna's products/services and underwriting protocols. · Completes accurate financial analysis and risk assessment to evaluate specific strategic options and opportunities independently. · Recommends and suggests alternatives. · Focuses on quality while completing internal processes efficiently. · Manages multiple tasks and effectively prioritizes work. · Develops and delivers financial exhibits and documentation. · Independently negotiates and fully explains rate development, pricing components and application of underwriting policies while remaining conscious of financial objectives. · Proactively communicates technical concepts to internal and external constituents. · Collaborates and shares information cross-functionally. · Mentors and coaches others. BACKGROUND/EXPERIENCE desired:· Minimum 4+ years Medical Underwriting experience · Strong math aptitude, analytical, critical thinking, and decision making skills · Knowledge and understanding of self-funded and fully insured arrangements is strongly preferred· Proven ability to build strong cross-functional relationships with sales force and other internal organizations· Excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact with customers, brokers and consultants. · Ability to anticipate customer needs and negotiate with customers using tact and diplomacy.· Ability to work well in a fast-paced, team environment and be adaptable to changing priorities. EDUCATION
The highest level of education desired for candidates in this position is a Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
