Join the expanding AFA/Stop loss team. Support actuarial functions by applying quantitative skills and analytical methods. Take full ownership of assigned projects and potentially act as project team lead. Use problem-solving skills and creativity to shape the development of pricing processes.

This position is responsible for actuarial services in support of the Aetna Funding Advantage and Stop Loss products for all Commercial segments, with a focus on pricing. Opportunity to shape the development of a rapidly growing product in a highly visible role. The candidate will be responsible for effective execution of complex rate review processes with many stakeholders, so strong organization and project-management skills are desired. In addition, an ideal candidate will have the problem-solving skills and creativity to improve existing business processes. The actuarial team works closely with other functional areas, including underwriting, sales, and finance, as well as other actuarial teams throughout the organization.

Fundamental Components:

Support actuarial function by applying quantitative skills and analytical methods. Set own priorities within pre-established overall deadlines. Plan and manage the execution of major pricing projects with many stakeholders. Complete tasks independently with some direction from supervisor. Manage personal resources efficiently to complete projects and exhibit innovative use of resources. Provide input into decision making process and exercise decision making within scope of authority. Demonstrate Microsoft Excel proficiency and familiarity with database and web-based applications. Turns data into information and suggests alternatives or improvements. Communicates results of analyses to supervisor and other actuarial teams. Demonstrates understanding of intradepartmental products, programs, processes and policies. Works with supervisor to understand nature of specific risks and shares results of analysis with management, including financial impact. Develops creative technical solutions for a variety of problems. Represents area in multi-functional workgroups. Responds to complex inquiries.


Degree in Actuarial, Mathematics, Accounting, or Finance or related field desired.

Minimum of 3+ year(s) work experience in healthcare.

Must have minimum 2 - 3 actuarial exams passed.

Existing proficiency with Microsoft Excel.

Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.

Able to work productively with others, responsive, and is a quick learner.

The candidate, ideally, should be based in Hartford, CT but open to other hub locations; Blue Bell, PA, Atlanta, GA, or Bethesda, MD.


The highest level of education desired for candidates in this position is a Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
