Support Aetna's ability to achieve its financial and strategic goals through effective underwriting. Primarily includes identifying, evaluating, and managing risk in order to maximize revenue, membership and earnings. Supports the sales process by performing accurate underwriting analysis and risk assessment for complex new and/or renewal of case files
Serves as a consultant for field sales and account management on strategic large employer groups.
Calculates complex renewal and prospective group rates using solid product knowledge and underwriting protocols.
Diagnoses product offering situations and makes strategic recommendations for benefit designs and pricing positions.
Grants underwriting exception and financial variances within prescribed dollar limits.
Negotiates and fully explains rate development, pricing components, and application of underwriting policies.
Presents information to employers and brokers in support of business rating practices.
Ensures the quality and integrity of account-specific data and information released to the sales force.
Utilizes advanced functionality of rating/financial tools, reference materials, and source systems for premium, membership, and claim information.
Analyzes competitive position on a case specific basis and develops financial comparisons.
May lead process improvement initiatives.
Previous (5-7 years) experience in underwriting pricing methodologies and funding arrangements.
Demonstrated analytical and independent thinking skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Must be able to communicate effectively with all levels of management.
Ability to use standard corporate software packages and corporate applications.
The highest level of education desired for candidates in this position is a Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
