We are currently seeking an experienced medical underwriter to join our growing team, Underwriting Shared Services - Data & Reporting team.

Fundamental Components:

As an Sr Underwriting Consultant, an individual will have the responsibility to analyze health benefit plan characteristics and assess risks as to frequency and potential severity of losses of clients. Collaborating with Sales and Service partners, the Sr Underwriting Consultant will work to help set strategies to balance the needs of the plan sponsor and Aetna. The Sr Underwriting Consultant will evaluate and recommend alternative pricing options and plan design changes based on economic analysis and trends. This individual will also prepare financial modeling for reserve calculation, budget calculation, and other ongoing reviews that directly aligns with client strategies. The person will validate renewals and request for proposals for accuracy including utilization & experience reporting in addition to mentoring.

BACKGROUND/EXPERIENCE desired:· Previous (5-7 years) experience in medical underwriting pricing methodologies and funding arrangements.· Demonstrated strong analytical and independent thinking skills.· Excellent written and verbal communication skills.· Must be able to communicate effectively with all levels of management.· Ability to use standard corporate software packages and corporate applications. EDUCATION

The highest level of education desired for candidates in this position is a Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.

Telework Specifications:

Position is open to Part-time Telework (ex: 2 days office-based, 3 days telework). Option for telework will be evaluated after a certain period of employment.


As an Underwriting Consultant, there will also be opportunities to mentor others and to become resource on projects in support of underwriting processes, methodologies and tools, promoting a collaborative and open work environment. Proven ability to anticipate customer needs and negotiate with customers using tact and diplomacy.
